Lisa & Michael’s Wedding in Dublin

Lisa & Michael's Wedding in Dublin

We got engaged in a winery called The Foreign Affair Winery in St. Catherine’s in Ontario, Canada.

We were living in Toronto at the time and I wanted to visit this winery, I loved the branding of the labels.  Michael had organised a private wine tasting and tour, I didn’t suspect anything at the time, the manager just said it was “a quiet day” in the winery and we had the place to ourselves.

At one point during the wine tasting, the manager excused himself and asked Michael to open the next bottle. Michael had organised a custom label on the bottle of wine, and as he handed me the bottle which read ‘Will you marry me?’, he got down on one knee. It was such an amazing surprise and a really special moment.

We got married in October at St Mary’s, Star of the Sea Church in Sandymount. My parents & grandparents were married in this Church so it was really special to able to carry on the tradition. We were married by Michael’s cousin, Father Cormac, who had married his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, so it was nice to have traditions from both sides.

We held our reception in the Merrion Hotel in Dublin’s city centre. We had originally planned another venue and date but with COVID we had to pivot and only booked the venue two weeks before. The Merrion is one of the most iconic hotels in Dublin and we were so lucky to be able to have our reception there. The food and service was incredible and the staff went above and beyond for us. I couldn’t recommend it more and I think everything worked out the way it was meant to!

Our theme was “Simple and Elegant”. Our flowers were pink blushes, cream & eucalyptus which really complimented our bridesmaid’s blackcurrant dresses.

How did you feel in your Castigliano gown?

I loved wearing my dress and felt like a true bride in it! My parents and I travelled from Dublin to London in search of my wedding dress. Caroline Castigliano was by far the best experience of all the boutiques we had in both Ireland & London. The team in Caroline Castigliano made every interaction so special and memorable. I loved the pink champagne as well, and that it was always readily available!

Best moment of the day?

Really hard question. I loved every moment of the day but my favourite part was probably the ceremony. Our drinks reception was also a lot of fun too, filled with lots of dancing and laughter!

Any tips for brides-to-be?

Enjoy every moment of it as it will go by so quickly!
